Beaujolais wine tour
|
This tour of Beaujolais wine is devoted to the glories of the Gamay grape in the 10 crus of the Beaujolais, ignoring Beaujolais Nouveau and Villages. The level of comfort reflects the character of the region: no super luxurious hotels and only one restaurant with a Michelin star. That is in keeping with these terroirs: modest, honest, and with terrific value to be found in the right places.
We begin our tour of Beaujolais wine with a one and a half hour TGV (high speed train) ride to Macon, from where your personal bilingual guide, adept at the cru of Beaujolais, will drive you to the village of Fleurie, to check in at the simple and comfortable Grand Vins Hotel. We begin our tastings of Fleurie wines at either the Chapelle des Bois, the Domaine Michel Chignard or the Château de Fleurie.
As in all our French wine tours, the specific venue will be determined at the moment, according to the commitments of these outstanding producers. We continue our wine tour with our Fleurie experience at the village's one star Cep restaurant, where you will have a chance to sample some white Beaujolais, as well as more reds from the Fleurie district. In the afternoon we will drive over to neighbouring Chénas for a tasting at either Domaine Champagnon, Benon or Trichard.
We will complete our first day's visits in the heart of the Moulin à Vent district with a visit to George Duboeuf's picturesque wine village at Romaneche Thorins. The village is as much a museum of wine-making as it is a center for tasting Duboeuf ubiquitous products which excel in the Morgon, Régnie, Chiroubles, Fleurie and Chénas crus. For dinner we will drive up to St. Amour Bellevue where we will enjoy a meal conceived with St. Amour and Juliénas crus.
Our second day in this tour of Beaujolais wine begins with a tasting in the Chiroubles district at either Bouillard, the Domaine E. Cheysson, or Fourneau, after which we stop in the village of Villié Morgon for a meal at the rustic Morgon restaurant with its excellent selection Morgon crus and traditional cusine. We finish our Beaujolais cru wine tastings in the Cote de Brouilly region at either Domaine de Chavanne, Château Thivin, or Domaine Nesmes. We conclude this Paris Luxury Tour with a drive back to Macon to catch the TGV back to Paris.
