    France Wine Tours

    Champagne Tour
A little more than an hour's drive east from Paris, enter the enchanting world of champagne: home of the fabled drink, site of one of France's great Gothic cathedrals at Reims, and a countryside that is so cultivated and groomed that you will hardly recognize it as agriculture.

Notre-Dame de ReimsOf the over 19,000 producers of champagne, we will take you to one of the great champagne houses in Reims, Piper-Heidsieck, where you will be shown the many steps in the process of making champagne in an underground cellar so vast you need to ride a train to reach its different parts! If you wish to make purchases to stock your cellar, Paris Luxury Tours provides facilities for shipping your acquisitions home.

This Paris Luxury Tour will also drive you to the Reims Mountain, the Vallee de la Marne and the Cote de Blancs, with stops in Epernay for a tasting at Pol Roger and Gosset in Ay, including a meal in one of the great Champagne country restaurants, the starred Royal Champagne hotel restaurant in Champillon, just outside Epernay, one that is completely conceived, prepared and consumed with champagne.

    Chablis Tour
This one day excursion from Paris to Chablis takes you to a wine kingdom where Chardonnay reigns supreme in a unique terroir.
Chablis' combination of cool northern location (only Champagne is further north in France) and limestone clay produces inimitable flavors which simply can not be found in the warmer southern parts of Burgundy: a minerally, intense charged flavor that can be at once nervous and immortal, and easily equal to the best whites of the Cote de Beaune.

This day tour of Chablis concentrates on the best producers of Chablis Grand Cru, with a morning tasting with one producing wines from either Les Clos, Vaudesir or Valmur and an afternoon tasting with another producing wines from either Blanchot, Grenouilles, Les Preuses or Bougros. In between, you can stop for a lunch at the delightful Auberge les Tilleuls in the village of Vincelottes, or, if you you prefer a Michelin starred establishment, the Hostellerie des Clos in Chablis itself.

This Paris Luxury Tour is one of the most relaxing one day wine tours in France, and exposes you not only to one of Burgundy's greatest wines and the warm hospitality of its best vineyards, it also gives you insight into the soul of a region that is as renowned for its cuisine as for the beauty of its countryside.

Cost for 1-3 persons: 850 € per group
    --- for 4-6 persons: 1000 € per group
Includes driver/guide, luxury vehicle, fuel and tolls.

    The Loire Valley Wines Tour
For a Loire wine day tour from Paris, there is no shortage of destinations. We suggest one of two areas: the Vouvray-Montlouis sector next to Tours or the Sancerre-Pouilly area of the Nievre. There is a lot to be said for both. Either way, this Paris Luxury Tour takes you on a two hour drive from Paris to some of the most attractive and renowned wine producing areas of France, in a delightful day excursion from Paris into the Loire Valley.

A wine-tasting day tour of Sancerre and Pouilly Fume treats you to the pleasures of dry wines made from the sauvignon blanc grape in a limestone-rich terroir that can produce astonishing and rarely-seen complexity for this grape. We take you to such domains as those of Didier Daguenau near Pouilly sur Loire and Henri Bourgeois in Sancerre. We suggest two tastings in each appellation, separated by a memorable and reasonable country meal, such as at the Cotes de Monts Damnes in Chavignol.

Our tour of Vouvray and Montlouis explores the world of the chenin blanc grape in clay and gravel soil above the 'tuffeau,' near the Loire River, where the wines can be either dry or sweet. We take you to the domains of Prince Poniatowski in Vouvray and Berger or Chidaine in Montlouis; and we recommend a delightful lunch at the seductive l'Arche de Meslay restaurant. As the setting for this tour is in the most romantic and royal part of the Loire, we can limit the wine tastings to two or three, to free some time to also visit a chateau, such as at near-by Amboise, or even Leonardo da Vinci's last home, Le Clos-Luce.

Cost for 1-3 persons: 850 € per group
    --- for 4-6 persons: 1000 € per group

Includes driver/guide, luxury vehicle, fuel and tolls.
Meals, entry fees, drinks not included.

The Champagne tour ends there and we depart on a 3 hour drive to Marlenheim, where we initiate the Alsatian wine tour by dining and spending the night at the Cerf hotel/restaurant which, with its two Michelin stars, is renowned throughout France for its inventive mastery of Alsatian cuisine.

The next morning we depart down the route du vins on an itinerary identical to that of the two day tour, except that we will stop at two additional producers of Alsace Grand Cru wines and stop for lunch at Riquewihr and for the night in Colmar.

The next day we will visit four outstanding producers of wine on the way to Guebwiller, dining at Rouffach on the way. We drive back to Paris from Rouffach, a four hour drive.

    Tour of Alsace
Treat yourself to a tour of one of France's most unique regions, one that has its own distinct history and culture, partly due to its position next to bordering Germany and Switzerland. From its history, to its cuisine, to its wine, to its architecture, even to its floral decoration, Alsace is different from the rest of France, yet it is still quintessentially French. Few other regions of the country can match Alsace's constellation of Michelin stars (29 restaurants, including three 3-star) This tour is designed to let you sample that uniqueness with the help of your personal bilingual guide.

Your tour begins with a four hour drive to Strasbourg, where, we will check into the Hotel Beaucour, elegantly installed in two beautiful 18th century Alsatian houses. After lunch, we begin with a walking tour of the Old Town, with its charming 13-16th century houses, skirted around the city's unique Gothic and pink Notre Dame cathedral. We will also visit the Rohan Palace and the Grand Apartements at the Decorative Arts Museum, as well as take a stroll through the La Petite France quarter. We will have dinner at the three starred Beurehiesel restaurant, a paradise for Alsatian cuisine.

Then we will drive to the nearby village of Riquewihr, a beautiful typically Alsatian town in the center of the Riesling region, where a visit is a step back into the 16th century (since which time its appearances have not changed). For dinner we have a choice of eight starred restaurants (including the sublime 3-star Auberge d'Ill) either in Colmar or within a 15' drive.

On our last day we will drive to and visit the ancient Haut-Koenigsburg Castle, with its panoramic views of the Alsace countryside. The Rhone Valley Wines Tour
When we started sampling French wines in earnest over twenty years ago, wines of the Rhone Valley region had lost much of the glory they had enjoyed 100 years before, when they were known as equal to the finest that France had to offer. We often confounded even the most knowledgeable of our connoisseur friends with blind servings of Cote Rotie and Chateauneuf-du-Pape selections, which they often mistook for the most noble Burgundies or the most illustrious Bordeaux.

Today, largely through the efforts of a few individuals, the great Rhone red wines have largely regained their former reputation, and this tour does homage to the achievement.

We start with a TGV (high speed train) ride from Paris to Vienne, where we will check into the renowned 2-starred Pyramide hotel/restaurant. After an appetite-whetting stroll through the ancient Roman ruins of the city (with its astonishing Temple of Augustus and Livia), we begin our samplings in earnest at Pyramide with a meal designed around the whites of near-by Condrieu and the reds of Cote Rotie. In the afternoon we will have tastings of Cote Rotie at either Barge, Bernard, Burgaud, Champet, Chapoutier, Clusel-Roch, or Delas. We will also taste Condrieu whites at either, Gangloff, Guigal, Jaboulet, Andre Perret, Niero Pinchon, Vernay or Verzier. The choice of venue for the tastings is determined at the time, according to the engagements of these remarkable producers. For those of you who wish to stock your cellars here, Paris Luxury Tours also provides facilities for shipping your purchases home. We conclude our first day at the starred Domaine de Clairefontaine in near-by Chonas l'Amballan, where we will have a dinner designed around Viognier and Cotes du Rhone wines.

Our second day begins with a drive down to Tain l'Hermitage, the capital of the second heavy-weight of the Rhone, of the same name. Here we will have a tasting of reds wines at either Belle, Chapoutier, Chave, Delas, Desmeure, Faurie, Sorrel or Tardieu-Laurent. Lunch will follow at the starred Rive Gauche restaurant, where we will have a meal conceived around septentrionale (northern Rhone) wines. After lunch we proceed to a tasting of still and sparkling whites from some of the same producers. We end our second day checking into the famous Pic Hotel/Restaurant (2-stars in Michelin) in the town of Valence, where we will stroll through the Old Town, spend the night and enjoy a dinner designed around St. Peray and Hermitage wines.

Our final day begins with a drive to the southern Rhone district of Chateauneuf-du-Pape, the third star of Rhone reds, where we will have a tasting of reds (and whites) at either Chateaux de Beaucastel, Fortia, Gardine, Mont Redon, La Nerthe, Rayas, or Domaines de Beaurenard, Bosquet des Papes, Les Cailloux, Font-de-Michelle, Grand Tinel, Pegau, Clos de Mont Olivet or Clos des Papes, Clos St-Jean or Vieux Donjon.

We have our final meal at the starred Europe restaurant in Avignon, designed around Cotes du Rhone and Chateauneuf-du-pape wines. Our tour finishes with a visit of the city's highlights and a TGV ride back to Paris.

This tour of Beaujolais wine is devoted to the glories of the Gamay grape in the 10 crus of the Beaujolais, ignoring Beaujolais Nouveau and Villages.
