    Paris Tour, Chronologically
The first Parisians left no enduring structures where they lived on the Ile de la Cite, but they gave us the name from their own, the Parisii. Their Roman conquerors changed it to Lutece, which did not last, but today there are original Roman buildings to see: baths, an arena, streets and parts of a temple underneath Notre Dame, where we begin this chronological Paris France tour---back where Paris itself began.

Picture circles emanating from a stone dropped in a pool of water, and you have the necessary image to conjure each succeeding era that developed the city and added its own style. From Philippe Auguste's wall in 1190 to Philippe le Bel's Great Palace in 1298, to the Louvre that evolves over eight centuries, this Paris city tour progresses smoothly out from its medieval heart and successively reveals renaissance Paris in the Marais, the Paris of Henri IV, Louis XIII and Richelieu, into the golden classical age of Louis XIV and XV, through the havoc of the Revolution, into the neo-classical era of Bonaparte, the 19th century Paris of Charles X, Louis Philippe and Napoleon III, into the 20th century of Art Deco, Art Nouveau and all the way into the 21st century. Each of these eras contributes to what we call today's modern, functioning Paris.

This Paris day tour will not only reveal to you the logical evolution of the City of Lights, it will explain how and why each neighborhood acquired its character, and treat you to the stories and anecdotes that bring it all to life. At the end of one short guided tour of Paris, you will have a grasp of the city that many do not acquire in years of living here.

You will also be able to easily find your way about the city. Better yet, you will have identified what interests you most about this fascinating city, and where to concentrate your remaining time in the City of Lights.

    Paris Architecture and Monuments Tour
Paris has often been accurately described as a living museum.
What makes it such a unique city is that it is comprised of a variety of neighbourhoods, buildings and monuments, each dating from a vast array of historic periods, all of which have been integrated into a living and functioning city.

From ancient Roman times, through the Middle Ages, the Renaissance, the Golden Age of classical French architecture, through the 19th century, Art Deco and Nouveau, right up to the moment, this is a city that lives in its architecture of all ages.
This private Paris tour will reveal these more subtle aspects of the city's character, as you relax comfortably in a sedan chosen for its panoramic windows that permit your observation of the most minute details, driven by your personal bilingual guide.
Apart from the usual who-built-what-when-and-by-whom, you will see the city revealed with all the human details that make it interesting.

Every Paris tour shows Notre Dame as a place the faithful donated years of labor to build. This one adds interesting human details, such as Napoleon's need to cover its degraded walls with rich tapestries before he could crown himself there, as the revolution had earlier turned it into a barn. Our escorted Paris tour is truly memorable.

In the Steps of Napoleon Tour
In the few years Napoleon wielded power, he left his mark on the world and transformed Paris: partly by making it the capital of Europe, partly through an ambitious program of construction.

We will take you to his monumental creations: the Arc de Triomphe at Etoile, the smaller Arc at the Carrousel, the rues de Rivoli and Castiglione, the Vendome column, the Madeleine Church, the Greek faηades of the Palais Bourbon and the Palais Brongniart (the Paris stock exchange), the Chatelet column, the Pont d'Iena, several fountains (Mars at r. St. Dominique, la Paix at r. Bonaparte, Sevres at r. de Sevres, and Medicis at the Luxembourg Gardens).

This tour of Napoleon's Paris also enters the Louvre to view several of his portraits and monumental paintings, as well as admire that part of the museum which he completed so astutely, in part to house the treasures brought home from his campaigns in Egypt, Germany, Austria, Spain and Italy. We will also visit Notre Dame cathedral, which still stands today thanks to Napoleon, who saved it from destruction and where he later crowned himself emperor.

We will also visit the Hotels Bourrienne and Beauharnais, pass by the Ecole Militaire, where Napoleon was a student, before proceeding to the Musee de l'Armee where there are numerous portraits, souvenirs and personal effects of the Emperor. This Paris Luxury tour concludes at his tomb under the Invalides Dome, one of the most perfect in the western world.

In the Steps of Victor Hugo Tour
No character plays a larger role in some of his novels than the city of Paris, and few writers have left such an impact on the character of the City of Lights.

This tour of Victor Hugo's Paris drives you, in a comfortable sedan driven by your personal bilingual guide (and one intimately familiar with Victor Hugo's writings), to his city, the Notre Dame which his novel did so much to save from destruction, to his sewers (transformed as they were by Haussmann), to his 21 other Paris neighbourhoods and places where he either lived, frequented, or about which he wrote in his novels.

It will visit his 1832-48 home at the place de Vosges in the Marais, where we will visit the apartments he occupied (which have been recently refurbished) and where there is an extensive collection of his manuscripts and drawings. We will also pass by his last home on the Avenue Victor Hugo, as well as visit the Rodin statue of him at the near-by intersection of Henri Martin avenue. We continue by passing on to the Arc de Triomphe, where we will visit an exhibition relating to his funeral.

Finally, while trying to imagine the over two million Parisians who lined the route in homage, we will trace his last voyage to his resting place at the Pantheon.

    Baron Haussmann's Paris Tour
In the prologue to one of his books, the author David P. Jordan writes: "The Paris that magnetically attracts still remains Haussmann's Paris. The boulevards, the Place de l'Etoile, indeed all the major places, most of the bridges over the Seine, all the squares and small parks, the Bois de Boulogne and Bois de Vincennes, to mention only a few of the aspects that define Paris, were all Haussmann's work.
How we walk or drive about the city was determined by him, as was our focus on the various monuments closing the perspectives he created...
Haussmann imprinted himself on history... because he was responsible for one of the modern wonders of the world, the new Paris, whose transformation he oversaw, from
the most grandiose conceptions to the most minute detail." This tour of Haussmann's Paris focuses on his transformation of what was an exotic, yet dirty and unhealthy, medieval city into the miracle it is today. It visits his principal accomplishments, which are contrasted with some of those parts of the city he did not get to touch, so that you can better appreciate what he achieved. Apart from his accomplishments cited above, we will also visit the Ile de la Cite, the 4 bridges he added and the three that he transformed, and his Baltard markets.

Perhaps more than any other tour, this one will give you insight into what makes Paris unique---all in the comfort of a roomy sedan with insightful commentary from your personal bilingual driver/guide.

Cost for 1-3 persons: 750 € per group
    --- for 4-6 persons: 900 € per group

Impressionist Art in Paris & the Ile de France Tour
You may not need a personal bilingual guide to find the more famous museums and galleries in Paris that exhibit fabulous collections of Impressionist art; but you will be delighted to discover, through this tour of Impressionist art in Paris and the Ile de France, the many smaller museums that are home to wonderful Impressionist works.

Moreover, if Impressionism is a passion, you may be fascinated to know that many of the subjects of famous Impressionist works survive, virtually unchanged, to this day; so it is possible to compare what the artist painted with the original.

Let us drive you to Monet's Argenteuil bridge, Vetheuil church, and his Gare St. Lazare. Visit Renoir's Bougival and Chatou, Sisley's Port Marly, Moret-sur-Loing, Louveciennes, and Courances, Pissarro's Voisins and Pontoise, Seurat's bridges at Courbevoie and Asnieres or Van Gogh's church at Auvers-sur-Oise.

Amazingly enough, some of the old haunts of the Impressionists can still be visited: the Closerie de Lilas in Montparnasse (where Bazille and Renoir quaffed beer and exchanged ideas with Fantin-Latour), La Grenouillere bathing spot on Croissy Island (which Kenneth Clark described as 'the birthplace of Impressionism,' where Monet and Renoir painted side by side), and the White Horse Inn at Chailly-en-Biere (where Sisley, Monet and Renoir lodged on the edge of the Fontainebleau forest and set up easels in the open air).

Cost for 1-3 persons: 750 € per group
    --- for 4-6 persons: 900 € per group
Includes driver/guide, luxury vehicle, fuel and tolls.

    Paris Museum Tour
This Paris Luxury Tour is designed to give visitors who only have a single day to explore Paris’s major museums an overview of some of the highlights at three of its most important museums: the Louvre, Orsay and Marmottan Museums. Rather than thinking of it as a simple Paris Museum Tour, one might consider it a homage to Impressionism and the role of France in the history of art in the Western world.

The structure of the Louvre is itself an extraordinary monument and an important facet of Paris's history and architecture. The collections inside are so extensive that visitors there could literally spend months of morning-to-night exploration without seeing half of what is available. This Paris Museum Tour therefore only scratches the surface.

Our Paris museum tour begins with a short exterior tour of the Louvre buildings, from where the 12th century dungeon once stood at one end, to its phantom Tuileries Palace at the other, over six hundred years of continuous construction. We enter the Louvre Museum through I.M. Pei’s ingenious pyramid, and have a look at some of the museum’s most famous residents: the Mona Lisa, the Venus de Milo and the Winged Victory of Samothrace. You will also have time to visit a section of the Louvre Museum of your own choice.

This Paris Museum Tour then crosses the Seine River, over to the 19th century railway station so imaginatively converted into the present Orsay Museum, which houses one of the world's finest collections of Impressionist art. We will first visit a section that so many visitors miss, on the ground floor, where you will see a rich cache of works of Degas, Bazile, Manet and Monet, among others. Our Paris Museum Tour then takes a lunch break at the museum’s restaurant, one of the most beautifully decorated in the city, with its turn of the century decorations, which survive from the days when the same restaurant served the original 19th century railway hotel.

After lunch, this Paris Luxury Tour completes its visit of the Orsay Museum’s Impressionist collection on the upper floor, when we leave the Orsay Museum for yet another extraordinary Impressionist collection at the Marmottan Museum on the western edge of the city. There this Paris Museum Tour visits a collection of no less than 150 works of Claude Monet, not to mention a collection of, among others, Boudin, Caillebotte, Degas, Guillaumin, Jongkind, Manet, Morisot, Pissarro, Rodin and Renoir works on the first floor (but currently replaced by a magnificent exposition of Camille Claudel sculptures until March 31, 2006).

The sweep of Monet representation at the Marmottan, the world’s largest collection of works of the master, staggers one’s senses. It includes his Le Havre caricatures, works painted on the Normandy coast (including “Impression, sunrise” which gave Impressionism its name), railway stations, portraits, scenes from Argenteuil, Vetheuil, Paris, London, Rouen, Norway, Italy, and an amazing series of irises, water-lilies and roses at Giverny---from 1857 to his death in 1926.

Paris Luxury Tours has researched and designed this tour to provide its clients with an overview of what is available in three famous Paris museums. Far from being an exhaustive Paris Museum Tour, it provides a relaxed and enjoyable day tour of Paris Museums that will whet your appetite for French art and entice you to come back for more of the city’s treasures. It is led by a guide with extensive knowledge of its themes, who will drive you in a comfortable upscale vehicle from one location to the next.
