Le Havre, Honfleur, Rouen and Giverny Tour
Requite your passion for Monet's art with this exclusive private Monet tour, which includes visits to several of the towns that played
defining roles in his life: Le Havre, Honfleur, Rouen and Giverny. In each, our escorted Monet tour will give you the chance to see scenes painted by the master that appear today almost as they did when he rendered them, giving you a unique chance to directly measure his magic.
Monet's childhood was spent in Le Havre, where we begin this Monet tour. It was from here that word of his talent came to the attention of the man who became his mentor, Eugene Boudin,
who lived on the other side of the Seine estuary, in Honfleur. The title of Monet's 1872 painting of his impression of the sun rising over the harbor of Le Havre gave the Impressionist movement its name, and he often traveled either alone or with fellow Impressionists Sisley, Pissarro and Renoir to paint in Honfleur, particularly in the early stages of his career.
At a later stage, Monet was drawn repeatedly to the west portal of Notre Dame Cathedral in Rouen, your next stop in our guided Monet tour. No less than 20 of his views of the cathedral were exhibited in just one exhibition of his works, at the Durand-Ruel gallery in Paris in 1895. See for yourself whether, in this series, the artist captured the essence of an instant for viewers.
We complete this private Monet tour in Giverny, where you will visit the home inhabited by the master during his last 43 years, as well as the studio in which he worked. You will also visit his beautifully restored gardens, his own creation, which he considered his finest achievement. They were an endless source of inspiration to him, including some of his most famous works, among them his famous water lily and poplar series. Giverny is open from April to October.
If your tour is during the months from November to March, or if you are one of those who feel they will never have enough of Monet, we can extend this private Monet tour to include a visit in Vétheuil, where he lived 3 years before moving to Giverny, and where there are more scenes that we will show you that appear today as they did when he painted them, which permits you to take further direct stock of the master's art.
