Two Day Tour of Normandy
If you have only two days to devote to a tour of Normandy, Paris Luxury Tours proposes a two day Normandy tour itinerary that makes the most of your time. We begin by collecting you in Paris and driving to Giverny, where Claude Monet lived the last 43 years of his prolific life. You will
visit his home and what the master considered his finest creation, his gardens. The pleasure of seeing this source of endless inspiration for him is immense.
Your next stop in our two day tour of Normandy is Rouen, the capital of Upper Normandy. Few cities offer as much history as it does, and a walk through its Old Town is one steeped in events of the Middle Ages and the Hundred Years War; and it takes you to the spot where the life of Joan of Arc was brought to a cruel end. You
will also visit the Cathedral which Monet painted countless times, and we will stop for lunch in the historic Place du Vieux Marche.
Our tour of Normandy continues on to Honfleur, one of the loveliest fisherman's ports in the world, as well as one of the most picturesque. You will enjoy a promenade around the Old Port and be charmed by the quaint Ste. Catherine church, built to celebrate the end of the Hundred Year's War in the 15th century. You may also wish to visit the Eugene Boudin Museum, before our Normandy tour drives you along the Cote Fleurie (floral coast) to reach the twin resort towns of Trouville and Deauville.
Built when railroads opened the Norman Coast to Parisians in the 19th century, Deauville retains today the tony panache that first animated it, and you will enjoy a walk through its elegant streets, filled with lively cafes and upscale shops and boutiques.
For your overnight stay in Normandy, Paris Luxury Tours has many favorites to propose: the Hostellerie de Tourgeville in a 50 acre park in the Auge countryside just behind Deauville is a nice choice. For something more modest but still indescribably romantic, consider the Ferme de la Ranconniere in Crepon, an hour away from Deauville. Only a few minutes further away in Port en Bessin Huppain is La Cheneviere, which is, quite simply, one of our favorite hotels in all of France.
Your second day of this tour of Normandy can be devoted to seeing either the Normandy Landing Beaches, or it can be used to see Mont Saint Michel Abbey and Bayeux. For the former, this Normandy tour
includes: Ste. Mere Eglise (where Private Steele's parachute caught on the belfry) and its Airborne Museum, Utah Beach, the Pointe du Hoc, Omaha Beach, the Coleville Cemetery, the German long-range artillery battery at Longues-sur-Mer and the Mulberry Port at Arromanches.
Our tour of Normandy can alternately include a tour of Mont Saint Michel Abbey, which is one of the most dramatic and unforgettable spots in the world, a combination of improbable nature matched by an astonishing history of Christian Evangelism, Vikings, and the endless struggle between Britain and France in the second millennium. Our Normandy tour proceeds first to Mont Saint Michel and takes you on a commented tour of the Abbey and Island, including their history and architecture.
The second half of our second day of your tour of Normandy is devoted to Bayeux, also known as the Venice of the North, thanks to its network of canals. Home of the famous tapestry, which details the
Norman conquest of England, you will also be delighted by Bayeux's lovely Old Town and its impressive Notre Dame Cathedral, parts of which date from the 11th century. The first city to be liberated in the Battle of Normandy, Bayeux will seduce you with its charm.
Our two day tour of Normandy concludes with a drive back to Paris, where we will drop you at the end of the day.
